The North Carolina Soybean Producers Association is seeking applicants for the permanent, full time position of Research Coordinator to lead the association’s research effort. The position is based in Raleigh, North Carolina and works with the association’s board, research committee and staff to manage strategic investments in soybean research projects. The position is responsible for working with association stakeholders to establish priorities for soy research, for managing the association’s grants and contracts with research providers, for evaluating project design and methodology, and for creating tactics to share results and technologies with growers.
The Research Coordinator manages the association grant awards to faculty at North Carolina State University and to private service providers. The Research Coordinator ensures timely communication of project outcomes to growers and solicits production research priorities from grower stakeholders on a continuing basis. The Research Coordinator evaluates projects and research protocols and oversees project reporting. As necessary, the Research Coordinator may be required to implement a program of original, field-based research on soybean production and be responsible for research design, methodology, data collection, analysis and dissemination of results.
A doctorate in agronomy, soil science, plant pathology, or a production-related discipline is preferred and four years’ experience in production agricultural research or a related field is expected.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate an ability to solicit grower and stakeholder input on production research needs and establish research priorities, to consult with scientists and Extension leaders across a range of disciplines including soil science, plant pathology, entomology, weed science, crop science, plant physiology and others, to communicate to the grower community about research outcomes and opportunities, and to collaborate with state and national commodity associations on projects and programs. The candidate should have a proven ability to plan and implement agronomic research projects including variety and product trials, demonstration plots and replicated plot trials, from pre-plant to harvest and post-harvest analysis.
