North Carolina soybean farmers were some of the U.S. soy growers participating in Ag Supply Chain Asia in Bangkok, Thailand. The conference brings together buyers and sellers while offering the Southeast Asia food & feed industries insights into subjects that will shape the agricultural landscape in future years.
Soy growers Micheal McPherson, Forrest Howell and Tom Porter and N.C. Soybean Producers Association staff members Charles Hall and Jeff Chandler used the opportunity to visit with feed industry contacts and Thai soybean processors outside the conference. Thailand exported over 100,000 tons of chicken worth more than $2.7 billion in 2023, making the country the world’s third-largest poultry exporter.
The North Carolina team met with feed miller INTEQC Feed Company and soybean processor Thanakorn Vegetable Oil Products Company to promote the nutritional value of soybean meal made from U.S. soybeans. Thailand is a price-sensitive market for sellers of whole soybeans. The N.C. farmer visit helped push the U.S. soy industry’s objectives of promoting U.S. soy, providing the latest developments in U.S. agriculture, and sharing soy industry information to facilitate purchases of U.S. soy.
