The North Carolina Soybean Producers Association has an active community outreach program, participating in dozens of events each year to educate children and adults alike on soybeans, soybeans in human nutrition, the many uses of soybeans and agriculture in general.
The organization participated in “Wake Up to Ag Day” in Pasquotank and Camden counties on Nov. 25, 2015. The event was designed to expose elementary school children to agriculture. At the event more than 700 third graders visited various stations to learn about many aspects of agriculture, how it impacts our lives and build positive impressions about what farmers do.
The NCSPA exhibited at the event and provided backpacks with educational materials to the children, as did the county extension agencies and FFA students. There were also exhibits on soil and water and wildlife. Board member Jessica Burgess, a Gates County farmer (shown in photo below), assisted with the event and talked to students at the NCSPA exhibit.
