Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue visited North Carolina on Monday to survey the damage from winds and flooding brought on by Hurricane Florence. Congressman David Rouzer joined Secretary Perdue and USDA’s Cheif of Staff & NC native Ray Starling.
The team spent the first part of the morning, riding through eastern NC to see the effects that the storm had on the area. They then held a press conference along with Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler with local news stations.
After the conclusion of the press conference, the team joined a group of growers and ag industry representatives for lunch to discuss what they had seen. Secretary Perdue applauded farmers in their preparation for the storm and their perseverance afterward. Later that day, Secretary Perdue met with Governor Cooper to discuss USDA’s relief efforts in NC.
