Farmers know that data technology can help them understand and respond to the needs of their fields, whether it be through soil moisture censors, yield monitors or aerial imagery. Data can also help with seed selection.
Recently the winner of Asgrow’s 2015 yield contest in Illinois, Aaron Niebrugge, answered questions about how he utilizes data collected on his farm to select seeds for the upcoming year in order to maximize yields. He believes data can provide a comprehensive assessment of the characteristics of a particular field that can be combined with a local seed dealer’s recommendations to yield the best results. He sends planting maps, yield data and soil fertility maps to his seed dealer who uses the data to make seed recommendations .
