Several new products are being introduced this year to help farmers fight herbicide resistant weeds, and more are on the way. Even though these products will provide high levels of weed control, it is more important than ever that farmers exhibit good stewardship when using them. Unless the products are used responsibly and in combination with pre-emergence herbicides, the products will be abused and eventually fail.
The dicamba products have more application restrictions than ever before and it is important these restrictions are followed to ensure it will be a tool for weed control in the future. Cultural practices such as row spacing, cover crops, tillage and harvest weed seed management should also play a part in a complete weed control program.
